Images at 150ppi will be converted to 300ppi before processing. PPI is an abbreviation for Pixels Per Square Inch. This means that at 300ppi, there are 300 pixels (images information) in a square inch. 150ppi is half the resolution and not as sharp as a 300ppi image.

What are the supported file types?

Currently, we can accept only JPEG (JPG), GIF (Non-animated), and PNG images.

JPEG/JPG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) JPEG's support 16.7 million colors, but can "distort" the image to compress the file size. The amount distortion is directly related to the 'quality' setting the image is saved with. We also recommend that you use the least amount of jpeg compression possible. (This is a setting on cameras that is sometimes called "quality" or "compression".) While high resolution and low compression will increase transfer times, they will produce the best results. For best results, the file should be scanned in or converted to 300ppi.

GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is a bitmap image that support up to 256 colors. Used mostly when an image has a large area or flat or single tone colors. Logos, icons, banners, and cartoons use the GIF format. Use non-animated GIFs on 4 Photo Gifts. If you use an anmatied GIF, only the first frame will be shown. These images only work well with small photo gifts such as keyrings that have an images area of 1-2 inches. Anything larger with result in pixelization where the image looks very low resolution.

PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a raster graphics file format that supports lossless data compression. Supports 24-bit RGB and 32-bit RGBA color palettes, grayscale images with or without alpha channel for transparency. This is an improved format over GIF. PNG files can be very high resolution at 300ppi.

Can I use Black and White images?
Yes! In fact, black and white images can give your photo gifts a "timeless" feel that will give them a special feeling to you many years from now. Feel free to use black and white images, sepia, old-fashioned toned images. Children's artwork is also a popular theme and you can get quality results with today's advanced phone and digital cameras.

How big of an image can I upload?
In order to be able to efficiently produce your order, we store enough image data to print a 24" x 36" image at 300 dpi. If you have anything larger than this size, please reduce the resolution to 150ppi. This will reduce the physical file size so that you can easily upload to the design wizard. A 24" x 36" image at 300ppi is equal to 7200 pixels X 10800 pixels image. This is a very good image for canvas prints, aluminum photo panels, and other large products.

DPI is an abbreviation for Dots Per Inch. This term comes from the paper printing world that refers to the number of physical dots of ink in a paper printed document in a square inch area. Since we use digital technology to produce photo gift products, we use PPI, or Pixels Per Inch. Pixel stands for Pixel Element and it's the smallest physical element of a computer monitor screen that our eyes can see. We recommend images at 300ppi to produce the best quality products. However, we do not recommend converting a 72ppi web image to 300ppi as the resulting image will be very blurry or pixelated. See the examples below to get a better understanding of various resolutions.

What is the preferred image quality or resolution for uploaded images?

What looks good on your screen will not necessarily look good printed.
The preferred image resolution depends on the size the image will be printed on your Photo Gift. We will display a message if you select an image we feel may not have a high enough resolution to look good.

Generally for best results, we recommend that your image be at least as tall or wide as your chosen photo gift and be at least 300dpi in pixel per inch resolution.
